Collection: Fathy Afifi

Fathi Afifi was born at the well-known district Sayeda Zeinab in Cairo, where he got a degree from an industrial school, later he worked at various military factories, at the same time toimprove his artistic style Fathi finished his free studies at Faculty of Fine Arts 1981 under the supervision of Pioneer artists Bikar, Hamed Nada, Ezz Eldin Hamoda.

He participated in local and international exhibitions in Cairo, Berlin and Vienna. He won the seventh International Cairo Biennale. Afifi brilliantly captures Cairo’s crowded streets he strives to expose the pulse of everyday life.

Afifi’s paintings reflect a critical reality of life in Cairo, revealing how Egyptians’ daily routine has become mechanical and impersonal, using bold brush strokes, textured canvas and sketch-like techniques, he captures the grittiness of the streets and perpetual movement of machines and its impact on human being.
